Keynote Speaker: Sister Dawn Annette Mills, a Benedictine Sister of Perpetual Adoration at Clyde, MO. She is a word weaver and a storyteller committed to promoting a lively and prayerful relationship with the Holy and the work of seeking God. Sister Dawn will offer four daily presentations:
The Wilderness: Where God Speaks
The Wilderness: Where the Demons Live
Water in the Wilderness
The Garden of the Heart
Biblically, the Desert is often described as wilderness and indeed God did often speak to the people in the Wilderness. Of course Geography may actually include not only wilderness but also gardens and mountains and forests and streams. The study of geography can be defined as the study of the way an area's features are arranged and the relationships between the different parts. Sister Dawn Mills will lead us in an exploration of the Geography of our Souls and these explorations will enable us to do just that so that we may in fact, hear God speak.
A variety of explorations are planned for Saturday and Sunday, including:
- Creativity Unleashed: The Art Studio, led by Rev. Paul Coury, C.Ss.R.
- Desert Dreaming: The Dream Group as Enrichment for the Soul, led by Connie Bovier and Becky Youngblood
- Spiritual Direction with the Poor and Marginalized, led by Rev. Donita Harris
- Mestisaje, Diapora, & Barrio: The Landscape of the Latiano/a Soul, led by Rev. Juan Huertas
- Trouble / Triumph / Transcendence: Spiritual Direction and the African-American Soul with Rev. Sherry Johnson
- Music in Spiritual Formation and Direction: Experiencing and Expressing Barrenness and Beauty, with Rev. John Blinn
- The Father Wound: Isaac and Ishmael in Spiritual Direction, with Ralph Howe
- Evening Experience: Mentoring Leaders through Spiritual Direction and Formation, with Rev. Brenda Buckwell
- Jane Watts from Mississippi will be coming to speak about the next exciting steps of community connection and the formation expanded in-depth learning community beyond the basics across the nation. And Robert Carlisle, Certification Administrator, GBHEM, Ordained Ministry, Nashville, TN is coming to speak about the UM Spiritual Formation Certification.
