The Way of Discernment is one of the powerful Series for Small-Group Experience in Spiritual Formation (released in August 2008) published by Upper Room Publishers.

As I prepare to begin a group with this book, it looks to be one of the most important of the series. Not only will those interested in Spiritual Direction find it a helpful resource for the local church, I believe this can provide significant spiritual leaven for our changing church around the world.

Given that John Wesley’s use of small groups was crucial in the revival of the church over two hundred years ago, we may find this Way of Discernment from Companions in Christ to be a crucial resource for the small groups in our time, and a significant catalyst for a current revival.

The theme of the recent General Conference reminds us that we are called to envision "a future with hope" as we face the global challenges of our present day. The Way of Discernment is a new resource that can help awaken our communities to the “vital piety” Wesley knew in his time and deepen our level of hopeful hearing as we come to listen more intentionally and respond to Christ's loving call.
